Overview

Say My Name helps you hear name pronunciations in multiple languages. We keep the product usable without accounts and collect only the data needed to deliver audio, save your local lists, and operate the service.

Information We Collect

• Names, lists, themes, and your optional name card are stored locally on your device using browser storage.
• Quick share (one name from a list) keeps name data in the link query string. Shared lists now use short server-backed snapshot links; older shared-list links may still contain encoded names in the URL.
• My name card uses a short link with a token. If your card is public, opening that link loads your card from our servers—only what you put on the card is shown.
• We collect hashed, irreversible versions of requested names for anonymous popularity metrics.
• When you press play, we may fetch audio from third-party providers to deliver pronunciations.
• Server logs may include standard request metadata, such as IP address and user-agent, for reliability and security.
• We collect privacy-safe analytics data to understand how the service is used.

Analytics

Analytics data is designed to stay privacy-safe and avoid storing raw names in backend reporting.

• Name hashes are stored instead of the original names.
• Country code is recorded for geographic trends without precise location.
• A hashed user agent is used solely for bot detection.
• Only the referrer domain is recorded, not the full URL.
• A temporary session ID groups actions within a single visit.
• Events and language selections are recorded to improve the product.

Third-Party Services

To provide pronunciations, we query third-party services such as pronunciation databases or text-to-speech providers. We share only what is needed to retrieve audio, such as a name and language code.

Data Retention

Your saved lists remain on your device until you edit or delete them.

• We cache AI-generated pronunciation audio on our servers to improve performance.
• We do not cache human voice recordings from external providers due to licensing.
• Anonymous analytics data is retained for 90 to 180 days depending on event type.
• Standard server logs are retained for a limited operational period.

Your Choices

• Treat quick-share links and legacy list links like copied text: anyone with the link can read embedded names. New list snapshots and name cards are short token links that load from our servers, so share them only when intended.
• Delete local lists or clear browser storage to remove data stored on the device.
